With happy readers at King Alfred School yesterday. |
And here's Darcey who dressed up as Andi from my book Tall Story |
I hope you booky people are planning an amazing day.
For me World Book Day feels more like World Book MONTH because as an author, I get invited to all sorts of events surrounding the day.
No wonder my friend George's son got a little bit confused!
I wish we had World Book Day when I was a kid. It seems such fun! My social media feeds are awash with reports of reading quizzes and book talks and costume advice.

In fact there's always a bit of controversy and panic about what to wear on the day!
If your #worldbookday costume is costing you money, STOP. Spend it on a BOOK.— Joe Craig (@joecraiguk) March 1, 2016
Improvise a costume out of tin foil, if you have to.

Personally, I hate dressing up, but it's what I look forward to when I visit schools every year. As long as it isn't me who's doing the dressing up. Last year, when I visited King Alfred School, the librarian Cathy Brown, dressed up as The Brave Beast (by Chris Judge) -
This year, she's dressing up as Mister Munro from Ottoline by Chris Riddell, for which she had to buy a lot of fake hair from a wig shop. She's promised to send me a picture. I can't wait!
UPDATE!!!! Here is Cathy's Mister Munro ... with Ottoline.

Wherever you are in the world, happy book day! And don't forget to make time to find a quiet corner, turn everything off, and have a nice little read.
***The other day I made a slideshare photo-story about the Portsmouth Lit Quiz, in which the author team struggled to answer questions about their own books. Well. Not the whole team. Well. Okay. I struggled to answer questions about my books. Despite that, it was a fun event ... Do check it out.
