Say Hello!

... or KUMUSTA! Or MABUHAY! (which mean 'How are ya?' and 'Long live', respectively in Filipino)

This is me at Philip Ardagh's Illusions tent at the Pop Up Festival of Stories!

Readers, friends, countrymen! I love hearing from you! You can send me a private message via the contact form on the sidebar to the right. Or say hello via the comments below! Go ahead, click on 'post a comment' and tell me about yourself, what you like to read, anything!

Please read this important caveat: Having said tell me anything ... I do get rather too many requests asking me for help to get published. I am so sorry but I can't read or edit unsolicited manuscripts, and I can't publish you ... I am just an author not a publisher - it took me nine years to get my own book taken by a publisher! I do blog about the business of getting published and becoming a better writer on Notes from the Slushpile. In response to the number of enquiries, my fellow bloggers and I on Notes from the Slushpile are working on a How to Get Published page. Look out for it!

We'd be thrilled if you have a chance to participate.

  42. Hi Candy!
I just chanced upon your website while researching some material for my writing group. I was so happy to see another Filipino writer who is succeeding as a children's book writer. I joined the SCBWI last year and it completely changed the way I looked at writing. I've been attending many of their activities and making a lot of great connections with other writers. I hope to be published soon(Sana ngayong taon para masaya.:P)--in fact I'm halfway through the final edit of my middle grade fantasy manuscript. I'm definitely going to add your website/blog to the list of blogs I recommend on my own website. Mabuhay ka! I wish you more success in your writing.

  43. I just wanted to say, I was reading Tall Story on the train and I couldn't put it down when I got to my stop, so I was walking and reading, but it was too dark and I couldn't see the pages, so I stood under a street lamp, but it was too cold and my hands went numb. It was THAT GOOD! I wish I got you to sign my bookmark.

  50. My high school teacher husband and I just finished your book and loved it. We actually put it on his book list before we'd actually read it, but we're glad we did. He understood the basketball part better than me, but lack of knowledge was no obstacle to liking the book and characters. Hope you have a sequel in mind--was a tad disappointed in Andi for still not getting in touch with her Filipino side. She's not much how Pinoys see Western teen girls, you know, kiriray, sexually precocious and liberal. I'd love to see her in the Philippines. There's bound to be a story there!
